Connellsburg, exhibited the grand champion baby beef Monday during the annual 4-H/FFA Market Steer show at the Fulton County Fair. Knepper’s champion 1,095-pound fullblood Charolais also took first pace in the heavy mediumweight division of steer judging. The reserve champion ribbon went to a 1,050-pound Angus Limousin shown by Mark Roebuck, Warfordsburg.

Clarence Dietz and Terry Punt will continue to split the representation of Fulton County in the state House, but Robert C. Jubelirer will take over the county’s Senate responsibilities from William J. Moore, if a redistricting plan announced last Thursday is approved by the state Supreme Court.

A new beverage distribution store is set to open this coming Monday near Warfordsburg, along Route 44 south. The new store, to be called J&W Beverage Distributors, will be operated by local businessman Walter Peck and his wife, Jean.

The long, hot summer is coming to a close with night temperatures now dipping into the 30s and 40s and twilight falling a little earlier, as each day goes by.

Convicted murderer Merle Unger Jr., who escaped from a Maryland prison on July 22, turned up last Thursday in Florida with a gun stolen from a Greencastle sporting goods store on August 13.

Denise Black, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Black of Three Springs, and William S. Barrick, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Barrick of Newville, were united in marriage on July 11 at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Shippensburg.
