Thomas Farr Coates was not injured when his tractor-trailer overturned near the Amaranth exit of I-70 last Thursday morning. A Dameron, Md., man could face fines of more than $100,000 as a result of a tractor trailer accident that blocked the Amaranth exit of Interstate 70 last Thursday morning.

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg reported Thomas Farr Coates was heading westbound at 9:11 a.m. when he attempted to turn onto the Union Township exit. The 2009 Freightliner tractor-trailer, police noted, was oversized as well as too long to make the turn safely.

The tractor-trailer and load travelled onto the right side of the roadway and overturned, blocking the exit. The load, police added, contained a new piece of construction equipment.

Coates, 50, was wearing a seat belt and escaped harm. His tractor-trailer was disabled as a result of the damage. He will be cited by state police for hauling an overweight load without a valid permit and various other traffic infractions.
