Heather N. Calhoun

Heather Noelle (Shoemaker) Calhoun, 34, Blacksburg, Va., previously of Davidsonville, Md., died Saturday, August 13, 2011 in Burlington, Vt., after complications from cancer.

She was the daughter of Chalmer “Tinker” and Carol ( Swope) Shoemaker of Davidsonville, Md. She was the wife of Sam Calhoun.

Along with her parents and husband she is survived by three children: Jocelyn Calhoun; Liam Calhoun and Veronica Calhoun; a sister, Jennifer Shoemaker-Hummel, Odenton, Md.; and a brother, Mark Shoemaker, Hillsborough, N.J.

She graduated with honors from New River Community College and transferred to Virginia Tech, where she graduated with honors with a BAS in horticulture. Heather received the Most Accomplished Student Award at Virginia Tech.

She previously was employed at Intrexon as a scientist assistant.

A memorial service was held Saturday, August 20, 2011, at 5 p.m.. at the Hahn Horticultural Gardens, Virginia Tech Campus.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheren Church, 1370 Defense Highway, Gambrills, MD 21054, at 11:30 a.m.
