The IGA Foodliner of McConnellsburg bought the grand champion baby beef at the FFA and 4-H Market Beef Sale on Friday at the Fulton County Fair. The champion, a 1,025-pound crossbred steer, was shown by Steve Hollenshead, a 4-H member from Harrisonville, and sold for 65 cents per pound. The reserve champion, a 940-pound Hereford shown by Tom Seville, a FFA member from Mercersburg, was sold to The First National Bank of McConnellsburg for 58 cents a pound.

Pennsylvania will start selling statewide lottery tickets in February of next year.

Mrs. Viva Murray recently retired after 45 years of teaching at the Southern Fulton High School.

Marriage licenses: Tommy Buckle of Todd and Eleanor Ronk of Huntingdon; Fred Foor of Breezewood and Dorothy Foor of Everett.

Miss Karen Sue Crawford, daughter of Stanley Crawford, graduated from the Hagerstown Business College at exercises on August 28. She received a degree in junior accounting.

John Duffey, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Lyle Duffey of McConnellsburg, began a fouryear enlistment in the U.S. Air Force by reporting for basic training to Lackland Air Force Base at San Antonio, Texas, on August 30.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lodge spent the middle of last week in New York City. They also saw the collection of Wyeth paintings at the new Brandywine River Museum at Chadd’s Ford.

Paul C. Mellott Jr. spent Monday packing a rented U-Haul van with his belongings in preparation for returning to school at Boston University on Tuesday after spending the summer with his family.

Cook of Warfordsburg on August 26; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Reed E. Englert of McConnellsburg on August 27.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stunkard of Wells Tannery will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on September 5.

Karen Mae Mellott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Mellott of McConnellsburg, became the bride of Meredith Ray Shives, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Shives of Harrisonville, on August 22 in Sideling Hill Christian Church.

Marine Cpl. Roger Hensley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hill of Hancock, is now deployed to the Mediterranean with Marine Fighter Squadron 333 aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS America.

Joan Ray Oddono, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jean E. Little of Hagerstown and the late Dr. Raymond Oddono, became the bride of Richard Leonard Bernhard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bernhard of Needmore, on July 17 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church of Hagerstown.
