Gerald L. Heinbaugh
Born October 4, 1935, at Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Cynthia Margaret Elizabeth Pine Heinbaugh and John Dayton Heinbaugh.
As a young man he worked at the former Mercersburg Tannery and later for Hiram Heinbaugh Construction. He later was a selfemployed contractor. He was last employed by ED Plummer & Sons, now known as New Horizon Construction of Chambersburg. While an employee of Plummer’s, he worked at the White House and Camp David.
He was a member of Greencastle Church of God, where he taught Sunday school for many years. He was instrumental in the building of the first phase of the church. He enjoyed hunting and watching wildlife.
Surviving are his wife, Helen L. Mellott Heinbaugh, whom he married July 4, 1953; three daughters, Deloris J. and husband Clair R. Wilson of Mercersburg; Doris J. and husband Douglas W. Scott of Marion; and Lucinda M. and husband Dennis L. Stouffer of Mercersburg; 10 grandchildren; 23 greatgrandchildren; his stepmother, Edna Heinbaugh Gawlick, and half brothers and sisters: William Heinbaugh, Nana Jaurbe, Mary Beth Campbell and John Heinbaugh.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Ann Hager Helm.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., August 13, 2011, at Greencastle Church of God. Rev. Floyd E. Myers officiated. Burial was in Fair-view Cemetery, Mercersburg.
It was Mr. Heinbaugh’s request that there be no public viewing. However, a visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
