Racing Roundup

By Brad Vores

Mother Nature had the upper hand in central PA over the weekend as all Saturday night racing was completely rained out. It marked the first time that an entire Saturday night racing slate all across the region was rained out since April 16.

Friday night action at Williams Grove Speedway saw Justin Henderson score his second career 410 sprint car feature win over Brent Marks, Doug Esh, Aaron Ott and Danny Dietrich.

Lance Dewease piloted the Scott McClaren-owned machine to the win in the URC Rislone Nationals and the $ 5,000 payday over Aaron Ott, Mark Smith, Chad Layton and Curt Michael.

Keith Prutzman added his name to the long list of feature winners this season at Trail-Way Speedway with his first win of the season Friday night. He became the 12th winner in 15 races this season as he won the 358 Sprint car feature over Tim Wagaman, Jessie Morrison, Jeff Rohrbaugh and Logan Schuchart.

The biggest event washed out over the weekend was the Living Legends Dream Race 5 at Port Royal Speedway. The Dream Race for 410 Sprints had a great payoff while the track was going to honor Keith Kauffman and Walt Dyer as living legends. The Living Legends program will be made up Friday, September 9, on the night before the Tuscarora 50, while the Dream Race itself will not be made up. However, some of the special awards for the race will be part of the September 9 Twin 20s for 410 Sprints that will pay $3,000 each.

Saturday racing at Selinsgrove, Lincoln, Hagerstown and Susquehanna speedways was all rained out.

The 51st annual Knoxville Nationals take place this week with qualifying on Wednesday and Thursday night and the big $150,000 to win A-Main on Saturday night. Many of central PA’s top teams will be in Iowa looking to bring home the title. Drivers qualifying on Wednesday night from the area will be Lucas Wolfe, Tyler Walker and Fred Rahmer while Thursday night local drivers in action will be Stevie Smith, Brian Montieth, Daryn Pittman, Lance Dewease, Justin Henderson, Greg Hodnett and Cody Darrah.

That’s it for this week and as always, e-mail reaches me at Bvores@comcast.net.
