Elderly Howard Lockard of near

Wells Tannery works hard, tending his garden, cutting wood for his woodstove and until recently, cutting wood for his neighbors, too. You might say that he enjoys life to its fullest. But Harold Lockard is also familiar with death. For more than 60 years, he has worked as a grave digger. And he still digs graves the way he always has – by hand, using a pick and shovel. Lockard believes that he is the only grave digger left in the area who uses hand tools. At the age of 80, he has been digging graves for about 63 years, ever since he was 16 or 17 years old.
