Cowans Gap Activities
Activities at Cowans Gap for the week are as follows:
Thursday, August 11
11 a.m.: Tricky Tracks See if you can figure out what tracks belong to which animal , and then make your own tracks. Preschool age children and up. Meet at the nature center.
Noon to 2 p.m.:Family Backpack Adventure. Is your family looking for something to do this afternoon? Why not go on an adventure! Stop by the nature center to pick up a themed, loaner backpack with activities and materials to spend a couple fun hours together in the outdoors.
Friday, August 12: 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.: Forest scavenger find. Meet with the naturalist at the beach house to get your list of things to find. Bring them back for a prize.
6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Kayaks – Take a peaceful paddle around Cowans Gap Lake with the naturalist to see some interesting things. There are four one-man kayaks available to borrow, or bring your own. Life jackets required and provided. First come, first served. Meet at the amphitheater.
Saturday, August 13: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Come to the nature center to do an owl craft and learn a few things about these wise old birds; 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Visit the Brightbill Interpretive Center; 6:30 p.m. – Night Sounds – there will be a full moon tonight.
Did you ever wonder what is making all those noises we hear at night? Come to the amphitheater to figure out some of those mysterious sounds; 8:30 p.m.: Hooty Whoooo? – What bird better depicts nighttime than an owl? Come find out how special these birds are at the amphitheater
