Festival Whips Cove Church will hold its annual festival Saturday, August 13, starting at 5 p.m. Homemade ice cream and pies, sandwiches, entertainment by New Connection, cake walks and games. More information may be obtained by calling 717-294-3229. Food Auction

Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor a food auction on Saturday, August 20. The kitchen will open at noon. The auction will begin at 2 p.m. until finished. The auction is by Mike Sullivan. Pig Roast

A pig roast will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church on August 27 at 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Bring family and a covered dish. The roast pig, drinks and other amenities will be provided. Seating is available, however, feel free to bring lawn chairs. There is no charge, but a freewill offering will be taken for the musicians. Music will be by Country Cousins at 5 p.m. and the roast pig supper will begin at 6 p.m. The church is located at 226 Ebenezer Church Road, Needmore. More information call 717-573-2616. Pig Roast

Please join Immanuel Bible Church of Three Springs area at the pre-season outdoorsmen pig roast on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at 11 a.m. Join representatives from the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Pennsylvania Boat and Fish Commission, a professional forester and land manager, a veterinarian and a taxidermist. The featured speaker is Joey Hancock, national author, humorist, and hunting guide. All sportsmen and their family members are invited to attend. Following the sportsmen’s event, all are invited to stay and/or join in for a bluegrass concert that begins at 3:30 p.m., featuring The Wissmann Family. There is no charge to attend either event or to take part in the sportsmen drawings, though winners must be present to win. Church Festival

Siloam United Methodist Church, located S. of Harrisonville on Rt. 655, will hold a festival on Saturday, August 13, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Menu includes soup, sandwiches, homemade ice cream, pie, etc. Music will be provided by the Country Christians. All are welcome. Laurel Ridge Festival

Laurel Ridge Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery, will hold its annual festival Saturday, August 13, beginning at 5:00 p.m. rain or shine. There will be plenty of homemade soups and baked goods, barbecue, hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, soda and homemade ice cream. Bennie Roach will provide music and there will be activities for the youths. A picture presentation will be shown in the church in recognition of the church’s centennial. All are invited. An ice cream festival will be held at Center United Methodist community building Saturday, August 27, at 4 p.m. Served will be turkey or ham dinners with mashed potatoes, filling, green beans or corn, applesauce or coleslaw, tea or punch. Also available will be sandwiches, soup, cake, pie, soda and ice cream. All are welcome. Chicken BBQ

Needmore Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a chicken barbecue Sunday, August 21, at 11 a.m. Menu will be half a chicken, baked beans, applesauce, cake and roll. School Retirees Picnic

All school retirees are invited to a “I Am Not Going Back To School” picnic at McConnellsburg Lions Park August 22. Please bring an item for a Chinese auction to benefit the scholarship fund that will be held prior to the noon meal. Bring a covered dish, drinks and dinnerware. Needmore Volunteer Fire Company will hold an ice cream social on Saturday, August 13, beginning at 5 p.m. at the firehall. A parade will begin at 7 p.m., lineup begins at 5:30 p.m. Homemade ice cream, hamburgers, steamers, hot dogs, chili dogs, french fries, etc., will be available for sale. North End Garden Club will meet for the annual picnic Tuesday, August 23, at 11 a.m., at Hann’s Log Cabin, Strawberry Ridge, south of McConnellsburg. Meet at Giant parking lot at 10:45 a.m. to follow along to cabin. Bring a covered dish, lawn chair and Chinese bingo items. New members and guests welcome. St. Paul Lutheran Church at 220 North Third Street, McConnellsburg, will serve a free meal the second Tuesday of each month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Come and enjoy good food and fellowship. Note: No free meal in July but will continue again in August.
