Latest Batman Movie Begins Filming In Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh politicians are calling the third installment of director Christopher Nolan’s Batman films another step in the city’s makeover from Steel City to Hollywood destination.
Nolan praised Pittsburgh’s downtown architecture Thursday, calling it “incredibly valuable’’ to the look of the upcoming film “The Dark Knight Rises.’’ Some streets will be covered in artificial snow for scenes, despite the summer heat.
Actor Christian Bale, who plays Batman and alter ego Bruce Wayne, didn’t take questions and said few words but joked that while the snow might look chilly, “I certainly won’t be, stuck in that rubber suit.’’ The production is expected to continue through August, with a summer 2012 release date.
Pittsburgh has attracted a growing number of films in recent years, helped partly a state tax credit program.
