Four local civic organizations are richer this week thanks to the generosity of the late George Ritzert. Ritzert, who died March 20, 1990, bequeathed his entire estate, to be split equally among the Friends of the Library, Fulton County Historical Society, McConnellsburg Fire Co. and the Lions Club’s McConnellsburg Recreation Center (Lions Park). Each organization last week received a check for $57,609.83 from Ritzert’s estate valued at more than $230,000. The amount is, perhaps, the largest charitable bequest ever made in Fulton County.

Fulton County Chamber of Commerce voted last week to write a letter of protest to Gov. Bob Casey and state health department officials regarding the July 31 closing of the county’s state health center and the furloughing of its employees.

Fulton County Commissioners Tuesday agreed to purchase a site for the new Mc- Connellsburg area senior center and pledged their support for a Warfordsburg area sewage treatment plant.

Fulton County Little League champs this year are the Yankees. Members of the team are Derek Peck, Toby Souders, Jason Sheffield, Josh Raker, Jeremy Kelso, David Fagley, Brad Souders, Billy Seville, Morris Suders, Brad Seville, Mike Keebaugh, Dustin Doyle, Scot Gordon, Jessie Bivens, coach Mike Keebaugh, manager Tim Souders, coach Andy Doyle and coach Scott Gordon.

Mr. and Mrs. Sam “Pat” and Beulah Mellott of Harrisonville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 6 with a reception at the Greenhill Sewing Club.

Bart and Karen Elbin of Warfordsburg announce the birth of a daughter, Keena Rose, July 12, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Herman and Brenda Mellott of Hagerstown announce the birth of a son, Herman Benjamin II, on July 5 at Washington County Hospital.

Tamara Gordon and Thomas Jetz were united in marriage April 20 at McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. K. Earl Gordon of McConnellsburg and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Metz of Port Royal, Pa.

Ken and Lana Buterbaugh of Mc- Connellsburg announce the birth of their son, Alexander Lawrence Buterbaugh, July 18, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Marcie Price and Steven Klinedinst, both of Mechanicsburg, were united in marriage June 1 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg. Parents of the couple are Richard and Jean Price of Harrisonville and Larry and Darlene Klinedinst of Dover, Pa.

Debbie Hamil, Tobyhanna, Pa., and Christopher Hennebeger, also of Tobyhanna, were united in marriage May 25 at the Tobyhanna Army Depot Chapel. Parents of the couple are Cathy McDaniel of Mc- Connellsburg and Randy Hamil of Mt. Pocono and Carolene Henneberger and the late William Henneberger of Greencastle.

Jean Paul, daughter of the late District Attorney John Mentzer and Marguerite Mentzer, became the bride of Ivan E. Baldwin of Plymouth, Mich., on July 13 at First Presbyterian Church in Northville, Mich.
