Happy 225th Birthday, McConnellsburg!
Local historian and author John Nelson addresses a small crowd that turned out Saturday evening to mark the 225th birthday of McConnellsburg at McConnell Park adjacent to the county courthouse. Nelson’s talk, “Dreams: A McConnellsburg Tradition” was the highlight of the birthday celebration that was organized by the Fulton County Historical Society. Although McConnellsburg was settled by the 1760s, it wasn’t until April 1786 that town founder Daniel McConnell, who had been operating a public inn here as early as 1762, formally laid out McConnellsburg and deeded it over to its inhabitants. With Nelson on stage are, seated left, state Rep. Dick Hess and Dick Miller, Historical Society president.
