Pa. Sheriff ’s Deputy Killed, Suspect Dead
ALBANY, Pa. (AP) – Authorities say a man who fatally shot a sheriff’s deputy trying to serve a warrant at a rural Pennsylvania home had left a suicide note and was dressed in camouflage when he was killed in the shootout.
State police say the suspect, Matthew Connor, and Berks County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Pagerly died in the exchange of gunfire after police arrived at the Albany Township home of Connor’s girlfriend with a warrant for his arrest Wednesday.
Police say they were trying to arrest Connor for burglary and weapons offenses when he fled into the woods behind the house. Authorities said at a news conference Thursday that family members found a suicide note left by Connor earlier in the week.
Albany Township is about 60 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
