Kathy Kendall and Marla McElhaney-Weyland Kathy Kendall and Marla McElhaney-Weyland Longtime teacher and role model Kathy Kendall was recently honored by family, friends and former students at a retirement gathering held at the Alumni Community Building in McConnellsburg.

Having retired from the Central Fulton School District after logging 37 years of service, Kendall was noted as having passion and dedication for kids that was second to none.

In addition to Kendall’s father Bob Snyder taking the podium, former McConnellsburg High School basketball star Marla McElhaney Weyland also addressed the crowd on hand at the June 25 event. “Mrs. Kendall was a major part of my life and many other kids growing up,” said McElhaney Weyland. “In fact, I’m not sure you can call this retiring from a job – it’s more of her lifestyle.” “Some of her favorite phrases or cardinal rules were ‘don’t do it if you’re not going to do it right, I want to see 110 percent, you’ll never know until you try,’ and the one word you could never say was ‘can’t’ as it didn’t exist and wasn’t in the dictionary,” said McElhaney Weyland of Kendall. “I for one still don’t use this word and don’t allow my kids to use this word. However, for today I think it’s appropriate to say that Mrs. Kendall ‘can’t’ be replaced.”
