FCMC Foundation Announces Scholarships

Fulton County Medical Center Foundation has distributed a total of $8,500 to students pursuing a healthcare education.

“It is our hope that students from the area will return to the area in order to practice in their chosen healthcare field,” said Foundation Chair Spence Perry. The Foundation gave scholarships to both high school and college students.

“We like to hear from past recipients and get an idea of what they are doing. We invite any former recipients who update us on their status to apply for continuing scholarships,” Executive Director Robert Roush said. “We have had a shortage of primary care doctors in the area since 1978, and the 2020 looming shortage of doctors, mostly due to retirements, will affect Fulton County even more,” Roush said.

High school recipients are Kinsey Cutchall – Mount Aloysius College- Nursing – Forbes Road; Lacey Beatty – Elizabethtown College – Anesthesiology – Southern Fulton; Cierra Covalt – Allegany College – Radiology – Southern Fulton; Morgan A. Mills – Penn State – Dermatology – Southern Fulton.

College recipients are: Amanda Snider – Slippery Rock University of PA – Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program; Brittany Douglas – Shippensburg University – Biology: Health Professions; Devin Welsh – Penn State University – Pre Med; Elaina Truax – Elizabethtown College - Pediatrics.

Roush said the FCMC Foundation Board of Directors congratulates each and every student – regardless of whether or not they received an award this year.

“Even though we were unable to give every applicant an award, we want them all to maintain a close relationship with the Medical Center and explore volunteer and summer employment opportunities throughout their college career,” Roush said, “students can still apply next year for an award.”

Applications for next year’s awards will become available at the beginning of 2012. Please contact the Foundation at 717-485-6842.
