Erie Cancer Center Head To Walk 60 Miles For Cure
ERIE, Pa. (AP) – The man who heads Erie's Regional Cancer Center plans to walk 60 miles to raise money for breast cancer, a disease which his two sisters have survived.
Fifty-year-old John Girard tells the Erie Times- News he'll walk the 60-mile course in Cleveland from July 29 to July 31. He'll be accompanied by one of his sisters, Eileen Brodowski, who will celebrate her fifth year of survival after breast cancer a couple of weeks before the walk.
Girard is one of hundreds of thousands of people expected to walk 60-mile courses around the country in late July to benefit the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, a grass-roots organization that raises money for breast cancer research.
Girard says he's hoping to raise $2,300 in donations.
