M. Eugene Douglas
Born January 22, 1929, in Thompson Township, Fulton County, he was the son of the late Ora and Mattie Winters Douglas.
He attended Boardyard School.
He was co-owner of Douglas Service Station in Hancock which he started with his brother, Marvin, then later with his nephews, Doug and Keith Weller. He retired in 1978.
He attended Hancock United Methodist Church.
He was a past board member and secretary of Damsacus Cemetery Association.
His joys in life were Fords, racing, farming, hunting, playing cards and playing his guitar. But, his greatest joys were his granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Baker Douglas, whom he married August 22, 1956, in Hancock; two daughters: Pamela Douglas-Grosh and husband Tom of Smithsburg, Md; Cinda Franklin and husband John of Clermont, Fla.; one son, Dean Douglas, and wife Anna, Mercersburg; three brothers: Marvin and Bruce Douglas, both of Hancock; and Marlin Douglas, Chambersburg; five granddaughters: Lora Douglas, Braden Grosh, Kamryn Grosh, Christina Desilets and husband Matthew, and Amy Franklin and a niece and many nephews.
Services will be held Thursday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at Hancock United Methodist Church. Rev. Barbara Suffecool will officiate. Burial will be in Damascus Christian Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery.
The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hancock United Methodist Church, 168 W. Main St., Hancock, MD 21750 or to Damascus Cemetery Association.
