Coach Toby McGarvey and the MHS Lady Spartans soccer team held their annual carwash this past Saturday with great success.

Laurel Ridge Christian Church held its 100th celebration services on Sunday.

A memorial walk was held for William Myrle Trail on Sunday in Needmore

Leonard and Bertha Morris of Big Cove Tannery observed their 36th wedding anniversary on June 7.

A 50th wedding anniversary celebration was held on Sunday for Dale and Esther Mellott in Shirmentown. The couple are formerly from this area. They are the parents of two daughters and a son. Relatives and friends from here attended the celebration. They were married on June 10.

McConnellsburg United Methodist Church is holding its Vacation Bible School this week.

The first day of summer will be Tuesday, June 21. It seemed like summer came earlier, with the temperatures in the 90s and severe storms in the area already.

Gail and Betty McClain celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on June 8.

Tim and Debra McGarvey will observe their 24th wedding anniversary on June 20.

Congratulations to Drew and Roxanna Mellott Sheeder on their marriage Saturday at Sinoquipe Scout Reservation. A reception was held at the American Legion hall.

Vacationing with Geraldine Cornelius and Elsie Drulis of Cowans Gap is Geraldine’s daughter, Dorothy Seiden of Atlanta, Ga. Geraldine is 93 years old.

Thirty- four members were honored on Sunday at McConnellsburg Lutheran Church for 50 years and longer membership. Sixteen were in attendance. Doris Ott Ray was present with 73 years of membership, the longest membership of the 34 honored.

Keep Ronnie Hull in your prayers. He was a patient in Chambersburg Hospital with kidney complications and is now home.

We are having those summer temperatures early and we didn’t have the showers that were forecast. the farmers can appreciate this good haymaking weather.

Pastor Bill and Jean and also Mae Mann attended the United Methodist conference this past week.We are glad to have Pastor Bill and Joan back for another year.

Knobsville United Methodist Church will have a festival on Saturday evening starting at 4 p.m. Sandwiches, pie and ice cream will be available so come out and enjoy the evening.

Glad to report Rheon Gelvin was able to return home from Harrisburg Hospital on Friday. Hope he continues to recover.

Sorry to hear Dorothy Shotts is still a patient at Harrisburg Hospital. Hope she will home soon.

The family reunion of Kate and the late Herbert Berkstesser will be held at Forbes Road Lions Park on Sunday, June 19, with a meal at 1 p.m. Come bring a covered dish and enjoy the afternoon with family and friends.

Hazel Houck Edwards of the Burnt Cabins area drove to Houston, Texas, with her three Boston terriers to celebrate her 75th birthday with her son, Rock. She stayed two weeks and, while there, Rock, was featured in “The Texas Monthly Magazine” as he was honored as a 2011 five-star real estate agent. Hazel was also looking into an active retirement community in that area where she hopes to buy a condo soon if she can sell her property on Pleasant Hill Road, Burnt Cabins. Hazel has been own- er and operator of Edwards Estate at Ridgewood Personal Care Home. We wish her the best as she plans to move to Texas. She will be missed by all who know her.

If you are traveling to or from Hustontown on Rt. 475 you may need some extra travel time due to the construction.

Beverly St. Claar and Elena spent Saturday evening in the Kate Berkstresser home.

Household Hint: If having a child’s party, fill flat-bottomed ice cream cones with candy for an attractive table decoration and also easy for child to handle.
