Wells Valley Community Vacation Bible School will be held June 27 to July 1, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at Wells Valley United Methodist Church. This year’s theme is “Surfin’ God’s Word.” All are welcome.

Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church will hold Vacation Bible School in the Faith Center for children ages 3 through teens on Sunday, June 19, through Thursday, June 16, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All are welcome. The theme is “Inside Out And Upside Down on Main Street,” full of fun, music, projects, snacks and other kid-friendly activities. Vacation Bible School will be heldat Fairview United Methodist Church at 2288 North Hess Road, Harrisonville, June 20-24, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each evening. The theme is “Inside Out And Upside Down On Main Street.” Where Jesus makes a difference every day. Kids will be challenged to take a new look at what the Bible says about gratitude, compassion, forgiveness, grace and faithfulness and let Jesus make a difference in their lives. All are welcome.


Fulton County Parks and Recreation is offering a fun and exciting summer camp for kids in grades K-6. Explore animals and create a variety of projects that will be sure to bring out the child’s inner artist. Camp is set for June 28, 29 and 30 for grades K-6. The camps will be taught by Ms. Gillespie, a certified art education instructor, at Great Cove Golf Course. It will run from 10 a.m. to 3p.m. and cost $35/child. Youth football and cheerleading registration will be held at McConnellsburg Lions Park pavilion June 26, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. All practices are held in McConnellsburg at the Lions Park. More information may be obtained by calling 717-658-3563.

The Summer Reading Program kickoff concert will be held Friday, June 17, at Fulton County Library, with Jim Rule at 10 a.m.

Modern Woodmen of America Camp 7948 is sponsoring a bus trip to Baltimore August 9. The bus departs from the McConnellsburg Courthouse at 7 a.m. A stop will be made for breakfast at IHOP in Frederick around 8:30 a.m. Arrive at Inner Harbor in Baltimore at 10:30 a.m. and depart at 4:30 p.m. A stop will be made for dinner around 6:15 p.m. at Ryan’s Steak House in Hagerstown and arrive back in McConnellsburg around 8:30 p.m. Cost for transportaiton is $25 per person for adults, $20 for children under 12. The sixth annual Ben K-5K will be held Saturday, July 30, beginning at 8 a.m. at Center United Methodist Church, Waterfall. Registration is free until July 8. Registrations received after that date will include a $5 fee. Applications are available at Newman’s Market, Fulton County News, Edgewood Pro Hardware and Keller's Country Store.

The Daisy Fund will hold “Country and Cars for a Cause” June 18 at Harper’s Memorial Park in Shade Gap. The car show will begin at 8 a.m., followed by a chicken barbecue at 11 a.m. and a country concert at 1p.m. Opening the concert will be Butch Neil and Emily Centi and at 2:30 p.m. Darryl and Clinton O’Donnell. The Daisy Fund is a charity established to help individuals and their families who are suffering from cancer with nonmedical expenses such as gas money to get to appointments, lodging and meals while at appointments.

School retirees and senior center members are planning a trip to Penn’s Cave and Penn State Arboretum June 30. Admission to cave is $10.95 and lunch on your own in State College. Teen end-of-school picnic and sleepover party will be held at McConnellsburg Library Friday, June 24, from 6:30 p.m. to Saturday, June 25, at 8 a.m. All teens welcome. McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Association will sponsor a car, truck and motorcycle show on July 9. Show will be held at the old school parking lot in McConnellsburg. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Entry fee is $10 per vehicle. Preregistration is $8 by July 1. Raindate is July 10. Breakfast, dinner, drawings, vendors and auctions will be featured. Fulton County Community Christian School will host the 10th annual Forrest R. Mellott Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Great Cove Golf Course, McConnellsburg. This tournament will be a four-person scramble with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. Top prize for the tournament is $1,000. Great Cove Baseball School will be held at Lions Community Park sports complex in Mc- Connellsburg starting July 11 and ending July 14. The school begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. Baseball instruction for players 8 years old through 12 years old. Instructors are coach Bob Thomas, Chambersburg High School; coach Loy Garber (retired), McConnellsburg High School; and coach Rod Bennett, Frederick Community College. Festivals Fairview United Methodist Church will hold ice cream festivals this year on July 16 and September 10. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be sold. The festivals will begin at 4 p.m.

Festival Siloam United Methodist Church will hold a festival June 18 at 4 p.m. Serving homemade ice cream, soup, sandwiches, pie, etc. Music by Country Christians. The church is located on Rt. 655, south of Harrisonville. All are welcome.

Festival An ice cream festival will be held June 18, beginning at 4 p.m., at Knobsville United Methodist Church, located on Waterfall Road, McConnellsburg. Menu will include homemade ice cream, soups, pies and cakes and also hot dogs, steamers, french fries, coffee, soda and water. There will be music for entertainment. All are welcome to attend.

Festival A festival will be held at Buck Valley Park Satudray, June 18, rain or shine. Music by New Connection. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6 p.m. with music to follow at 7 p.m.

A turkey dinner will be held at Clear Ridge Community Building June 23, at 4 p.m. Served will be sandwiches, pies and ice cream.

A yard sale and lunch stand will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 N. Third St., Mc- Connellsburg, June 16 and 17, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

A steak and chicken dinner will be held June 25, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Pleasant Union Church fellowship hall. Served will be cubed steak, chicken, ham, potatoes, green beans, applesauce, roll, cake and softserve ice cream, by donation. The hall is located at 259 Pleasant Union Church Road, Clearville.

Paul’s Lutheran Church, Big Cove Tannery. Menu includes homemade ice cream, soups, pies and cakes. We will be serving barbecue, hamburgers and hot dogs. Entertainment provided by the Country Classics band from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The church is located five miles south of McConnellsburg on Route 522.

St. Paul Lutheran Church at 220 North Third Street, McConnellsburg, will serve a free meal the second Tuesday of each month from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Come and enjoy good food and fellowship. Note: no free meal in July but will continue again in August.

The FIDA, Fulton County Chamber of Commerce and Fulton County commissioners invite all to join in as they honor JLG Industries contributions to Fulton County. The event is being held Thursday, June 23, at McConnellsburg American Legion. Appetizers will be served at 5:30 p.m. Program and dinner begins at 6 p.m. A cash bar will be available. Tickets are available on a limited basis and may be purchased for $15 each at: McConnellsburg Tower Bank, McConnellsburg and Penn’s Village offices of F&M Trust and Fulton County Chamber of Commerce.

As a fundraising project for jail restoration, the Fulton County Historical Society is preparing a local cookbook. Anyone is invited to submit your most popular family recipes. There is no charge to enter recipes and you may later purchase cookbooks for $10 as gifts – a nice way to share favorite foods with friends and the larger Fulton County community. In order to have the finished cookbook ready for the annual Fulton Fall Folk Festival in October, all recipes need to be submitted by July 15. Submit recipes in handwriting and mail them to the Fulton County Historical Society, Box 115, McConnellsburg, PA 17233 or send recipes on e- mail to director@fultonhistory.org, in which case they won’t need to be retyped with a chance of error.

Applications for the 2011 Fulton County Fair Queen are available by calling 485-5137 and asking for Vickie or Susie. Applicants must be 16 years old, but not over 20 years old, as of June 1, 2011.

FOVA will be voting on a board of director at the next scheduled meeting July 6. All active VFW members should plan to attend.

Fulton County Library’s teens will hold a carwash and bake sale Saturday, June 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Car Quest Auto Parts (formerly Thomas Chevrolet). Carwash donations and bake sale proceeds will fund teen activities at the Fulton County Library.

Fulton County Hunter Trapper Education course will be held Thursday, June 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club. Bring a bag lunch for Saturday. This is the second of three traditional courses for Fulton County. Preregistration is required at PGC Web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us. The descendants of Clarence/Thorton and Mabel will hold their annual reunion at Needmore Community Center Scout grounds in Needmore on Sunday, July 4. Lunch at 1 p.m. Bring a covered dish. Plan to attend and invite others.

Fulton County Quilt Club will meet Saturday, June 18, at 10 a.m., in the community room of the Fulton County Library. Following a brief business meeting, a class will be held on adding sashings, borders marking nd basting the quilt sandwich. Materials needed for this class: sashing fabric and contrasting fabric for cornerposts, sewing machine, cutting mat, rotary cutter, rulers, needles, thread, quilt backing fabric and batting and marking pencils.
