James A. Smith
James A. “Jim” Smith, 71, Breezewood, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011.
He was born May 15, 1940, a son of the Ivan L. “ Ipe” Smith of Everett, and the late Velma Irene (Ritchey) Smith.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his former wife, Jean (Weicht) Smith, of New Port Richey, Fla., and their two daughters: Laurie S. Smith of New Port Richey and Debbie L. Smith of Spring Hill, Fla.; three sons: Kenny A. Smith and wife Jackie (Foor) Smith of Everett; Barry J. Smith, of Palmyra; Michael D. Smith, and wife Dawn of Tampa, Fla; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers: Ivan L. Smith Jr. and wife Dorothy (Walters) Smith of Breezewood, and Gary Smith and wife Patty (Lynch) Smith of Everett; and many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and their families.
He was preceded in passing away by a daughter, Cathy Jo Smith, and a niece, Kelly J. (Smith) Barton.
He was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant Union Lutheran Church in Mattie.
He first began working as a carpenter with the Carpenters Local Union #1419 in Johnstown, later working for Hench Brothers Inc. in Altoona and for Clark Contractors Inc. in Bedford. He then worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years until retiring.
He was a member of Breezewood VFW Post #8333, Everett American Legion Post #8 and enjoyed playing guitar with his friends in the band known as “Country Light Up.” At home he was an avid hunter and woodworker and was a dedicated son, father, grandfather and brother who was always willing to lend a hand. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 28, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Everett. Rev. Bruce Maxwell officiated. Burial was at Stevens Chapel Cemetery.
