Western Pa. Crews Search For 2 Missing Kayakers
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Rescue crews in western Pennsylvania have been searching for two missing kayakers in different counties.
Authorities in Fayette County said a 31-year-old man was reported missing after he and another man launched at about 3 p.m. Saturday from an unapproved location near Stewarton Rapids in Ohiopyle State Park.
Ohiopyle assistant manager Stacie Hall says the second kayaker reported his companion missing at about 11 p.m. Saturday. Park staff, state police in a helicopter and volunteers from Fayette County searched until early Sunday and resumed after daylight.
In Armstrong County, volunteers and workers with the Pennsylvania Fish and boat Commission have been searching Mahoning Creek in Mahoning Township between Eddyville and Putneyville for a kayaker who was reported missing at about 7 p.m. Saturday.
