Suspect Had Snipped Ankle Bracelet
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Police say a teenager charged with killing a university student over a motorcycle had been ordered on house arrest in an unrelated drug case but had cut off his ankle bracelet.
Nineteen-year-old Jeffrey Little was arrested Friday in North Philadelphia and charged with murder and related offenses in the May 9 death of 23-year-old Mohan Varughese.
Robert Malvestuto, chief of the city’s Adult Probation and Parole Department, said authorities were alerted to Little’s status as a fugitive after the March 28 snipping of his electronically monitored bracelet.
Police said the victim was at his girlfriend’s house when a gunman demanded the keys to his motorcycle and shot him when he refused. He was four days away from graduating from Penn State-Abington.
