RELIGION

Musical The summer community musical “Homecoming” will be July 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. It is open to anyone in the community of all ages. May 23 is the kickoff and first practice at Cito United Methodist Church. A covered-dish meal will be held from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall, followed by the first practice from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Solos, duets and groups are still available to be assigned at the first practice. An ensemble for children has also been put together. There will only be 12 cast/ensemble practices, so you will have a summer. Bible School Bible School will be held at Center Methodist Church June 13-17, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The them is “Power Lab.” All are welcome to attend. The church is located off Rt. 655 onto Dublin Mills Road, near Waterfall. More information may be obtained by calling 814-685-3236.

River Oaks Helpline A Christian crisis counseling/prayer phone line is now available. Caring and compassionate Christian volunteers are available from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily to listen, pray with you and help to find solutions for the challenges you are facing. MEMORIAL SERVICES

Memorial Service The annual Timber Ridge Cemetery Association memorial service will be held June 5, at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be Russell Hoffman. Special music will be provided by Winston Manning and Terry Miller. All are welcome.

Damascus Memorial Services The Damascus Cemetery Association will celebrate its 75th Memorial Day services on May 29, 2011, at 2 p.m. Sen. John H. Eichelberger will be the speaker, and the Sanders sisters of Berkeley Springs will provide special music. A written history of the cemetery association will be given to attendees. Anyone unable to attend and would like a copy should let the association know. Lunch will be served in the social room at the church at noon. All are welcome.

Memorial Day Services The 67th annual Memorial Day services will be held at Wells Valley United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on May 30. William Hine will be the guest speaker. Reading and music provided by members of the surrounding community. There will be a light luncheon after the service. The public is inited to attend.

RECREATION

Car Show McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Association will sponsor a car, truck and motorcycle show on July 9. Show will be held at the old school parking lot in McConnellsburg. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Entry fee is $10 per vehicle. Preregistration is $8 by July 1. Raindate is July 10. Breakfast, dinner, drawings, vendors and auctions will be featured. Strawberry Festival The annual Strawberry Festival, presented by the Fulton County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, will be held Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11, beginning at 10 a.m. daily. The festival is located at the Mc- Connellsburg Alumni Association building. The Mercersburg Community Band is performing on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m., inside the gym. Admission is free. Bring own chairs. These activities are scheduled for Saturday: an amateur talent contest beginning at noon, a baby/toddler contest and a strawberry capping contest. Three Springs Historical Society Open House Three Springs Historical Society will hold an open house Sunday, May 29, and Monday, May 30, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Stop by to see the many items on display. To arrange a tour, please call Roy Stevens at 814-448-3764. The open house will be held at 8438 Hudson Street, Three Springs.

Benefit Basketball Game The sixth annual Senior vs. Faculty benefit basketball game will be held on Tuesday, May 31, at 7:30 p.m., at Southern Fulton High School. The game will feature the seniors from both the boys and girls District 5 champion basketball teams, as well as their classmates and teachers. This year’s game will benefit two local families who have children suffering from cancer. The evening will feature a 50/50 raffle, half-court shootout and a bake sale.

Open Stage Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor an open stage on Saturday, May 28, beginning at 6 p.m. Kitchen will open at 5 p.m. Admission is free. Everyone is invited to attend and share their talent or just come and enjoy the talent of others.

Senior Center Activities Activities at the McConnellsburg Senior Center for the month of June are as follows: nickel bingo, 10 a.m. - June 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24 and 27; Hagerstown Amish Farmer’s Market, 8 a.m. - June 2; blood pressure screening, 11 a.m. - June 2; senior nutrition class, 10 a.m. - June 14; Roadkill for breakfast, 7 a.m. - June 16; senior club meeting, 11:15 a.m. - June 21; Belleville, Reedsville and Allensville, 7 a.m. - June 22; dime bingo, 10 a.m. - June 29.

Free Youth Shoots Free youth shoots will be held at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club, May 27, at 5:30 p.m. Registrations taken no later than 6:30 p.m. Open to all youths 16 years old and under. .22 rifles will be furnished and all shells furnished. Medals awarded nightly. Trophies awarded at the end of the month for high overall shooters. Kitchen open. Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Line Dance Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7:00 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated.

Golf Tournament Fulton County Community Christian School will host the 10th annual Forrest R. Mellott Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Great Cove Golf Course, McConnellsburg. This tournament will be a four-person scramble with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. Top prize for the tournament is $1,000. Ham Dinner A ham dinner will be held at Clear Ridge community building on Saturday, May 28, at 11 a.m. Bean soup, sandwiches, pies and ice cream will be served.

Festival Siloam United Methodist Church will hold a festival June 18 at 4 p.m. Serving homemade ice cream, soup, sandwiches, pie, etc. Music by Country Christians. The church is located on Rt. 655, south of Harrisonville. All are welcome.

Ice Cream Festival An ice cream festival will be held at Center United Methodist Community Building, Saturday, June 4, at 4 p.m. Ham or turkey dinners with fixings and drink will be served. Also other foods available, including sandwiches, soup, cake, pie, soda and ice cream.

Festival An ice cream festival will be held June 18, beginning at 4 p.m., at Knobsville United Methodist Church, located on Waterfall Road, McConnellsburg. Menu will include homemade ice cream, soups, pies and cakes and also hot dogs, steamers, french fries, coffee, soda and water. There will be music for entertainment. All are welcome to attend.

Festival A festival will be held June 18, starting at 4 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Big Cove Tannery. Menu includes homemade ice cream, soups, pies and cakes. We will be serving barbecue, hamburgers and hot dogs. Entertainment provided by the Country Classics band from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The church is located five miles south of McConnellsburg on Route 522.

Free Meal St. Paul Lutheran Church at 220 North Third Street, McConnellsburg, will serve a free meal the second Tuesday of each month from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Come and enjoy good food and fellowship.

Grazing Field Day Attention farmers: All are cordially invited to attend an informative field day to learn more about the benefits of rotational grazing, direct marketing, business planning and other ag-related topics to maximize the bottom line. The field day will be held on Friday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Lance and Carri Younker’s dairy farm, 829 Barnetts Run Road, Warfordsburg. Sponsored by the Fulton County Conservation District, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Fulton County Penn State Cooperative Extension. Lunch will be provided. Free Clothing Clinic A free clothing clinic will be held at Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, 13343 Williamsport Pike, Greencastle, on May 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until clothing is gone.

Fair Queen Applications Applications for the 2011 Fulton County Fair Queen are available by calling 485-5137 and asking for Vickie or Susie. Applicants must be 16 years old, but not over 20 years old, as of June 1, 2011.

Community Outreach Event Friends of Better Days Animal League, Fulton County, in support of Humane Society Enforcement Officer services provided to our county. Please join us at our first Fulton County community outreach event sponsored by Butterfly Gardens in McConnellsburg on Saturday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be hot dogs, drinks, baked goods, bluebird houses, bird feeders, and garden flags for sale, in addition to a themed basket raffle. Adoption opportunities for puppies and kitties in need of their forever home will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (weather permitting). Also, donations of pet food, cleaning/laundry supplies, and paper products will be accepted.

Book Drive Southern Fulton Jr/Sr. High School will be accepting new and gently used books to be placed in the school’s library or donated to the Fulton County Public Library. Any books that do not enhance either library’s collection will either be placed in recycling or donated to the Fulton County Library’s book sale. Please drop books off at the Southern Fulton Jr./Sr. High School Library until August 1, 2011. FOVA Election FOVA will be voting on a board of director at the next scheduled meeting July 6. All active VFW members should plan to attend.

Hunter Education Course Fulton County Hunter Trapper Education course will be held Thursday, June 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club. Bring a bag lunch for Saturday. This is the second of three traditional courses for Fulton County. Preregistration is required at PGC Web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us. Love’s Closet Love’s Closet will be open Saturday, May 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., off the parking lot on West Market Street behind McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. Clothing, shoes, household items, cleaning supplies, toiletries and more absolutely free for those having an “out of money experience.” Sponsored by the United Methodist Churches of McConnellsburg.

Photo Calendar Contest Submit your best Fulton County scenic photograph to the Fulton County Historical Society for possible inclusion in a 2012 calendar. Colorful photos for all seasons are needed. If selected, the photo will include the photographer’s name. Digital photos under 1 MB can be emailed to director@fultonhistory.org or printed photographs can be mailed to the Historical Society at Box 115, Mc- Connellsburg, PA 17233. REUNIONS

Reunion The descendants of Scott and Beatrice Sipes will hold a family reunion on Saturday, June 4, at Lions Community Park pavilion at 10 a.m. Meat, place settings and drinks will be provided. Hustontown Class Reunion Hustontown High School Class of 1947 will hold a reunion to celebrate 64 years since graduation on Tuesday, June 14, at 1 p.m., at Hustontown Firehall. Please plan to attend.

HEALTH

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, it is held the fourth Monday from 10:00 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

McConnellsburg AA Meetings The McConnellsburg Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. every week at the Alumni Building Basement, McConnellsburg.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings Free blood pressure screenings will be given at the following locations: McConnellsburg Senior Center the first Thursday of every month from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Hann’s Apartments the second Monday of every month from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Warfordsburg Senior Center the third Wednesday of every month from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Hustontown Senior Center the third Thursday of every month from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

MEETINGS

Chamber Meetings Fulton County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism members are welcome to join in for lunch at the monthly membership meetings the third Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m., at the American Legion in Mc- Connellsburg. A guest speaker will be featured at each meeting. Annual membership fee includes the cost of lunch for one person for the organization and a guest at an additional cost. No July and August meetings due to summer break.

Legion Meeting American Legion Post 561 active members regular meeting is the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Auxiliary members meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Members of both organizations are urged to attend.

FOVA Meeting Cancelled FOVA monthly meeting on June 2 is cancelled due to presenting the scholarship donations at the local school graduations.

PARSE Meeting Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees (PARSE) has a 9:00 a.m. breakfast meeting on the second Wednesday of every month at McConnellsburg FOVA (VFW). If roads are snow-covered, meeting will be cancelled. All retired state employees and spouses are invited to attend. For additional information, call 717-294-3861.

Scout Meeting Boy Scouts of America Troop 43 meets every Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in McConnellsburg. It is open to all boys 11-18 years of age. Democratic Meetings The Fulton County Democratic Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Democratic Headquarters building at 123 South Second Street in McConnellsburg. BINGO

McCbg. Bingo McConnellsburg Fire Co. will hold bingo every Monday and Friday of each week. Bingo starts at 7:00 p.m. and doors open at 5:30 p.m. A basket bingo will be held the first Sunday of each month. Bingo starts at 1:00 p.m. and doors open at 11:00 a.m. Forty games and meal plus snacks for $25.

Bingo Needmore Volunteer Fire Co. holds bingo Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:45 p.m. at the firehall.
