Fire Destroys Western Pa. Biodiesel Plant
HARBORCREEK, Pa. (AP) – Fire investigators are trying to find out what started a blaze that destroyed a western Pennsylvania biodiesel plant, injuring three firefighters.
Crews were called to the American Biodiesel Energy Inc. and North American Powder Coatings plant in Erie County’s Harborcreek Township at 8:18 p.m. Saturday.
Ronald Hawryliw, first assistant chief of Fairfield Hose Co., says about 100 firefighters from volunteer departments spent more than six hours trying to get the blaze under control, and it was not extinguished for another four to five hours.
Officials said three firefighters had minor injuries, and two were taken to a hospital for treatment of chemical burns, but their injuries weren’t believed to be serious.
