Corbett Factor, Marcellus Shape Allegheny Co. Race

By Joe Mandak

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Gov. Tom Corbett isn’t running in Tuesday’s primary, but he’s being mentioned a lot in two races for Allegheny County executive.

Corbett beat the incumbent executive, Democrat Dan Onorato (ahn-oh-RAH’- toh) to become governor and is now supporting a selfmade computer software designer, D. Raja, as the Republican nominee. Raja is running against former county councilman and solicitor Chuck McCullough – an attorney awaiting trial on charges that he misspent $200,000 belonging to a dementia patient he once represented.

Meanwhile, Democrat Rich Fitzgerald – another former councilman – is trying to suggest to voters in the Democrat friendly county that his opponent, county controller Mark Patrick Flaherty, might as well be a Republican. Flaherty’s dad was a Democratic county commissioner and his uncle, Pete, was, too, after first serving as Pittsburgh mayor.
