Invites Cancer Survivors To Relay For Life

To The Editor:

I am writing to extend a special invitation to all cancer survivors to attend the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life survivor lap and the celebration that follows that lap. In honor of each person’s battle against cancer, we invite you to attend the American Cancer Society Relay For Life event in Fulton County and take that celebratory lap around the track with what we’re hoping will be approximately 100 of your fellow Fulton countians who have also been diagnosed with cancer at some time in their lives.

Everyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer, whether years ago or very recently, is invited to attend the survivor lap and be our guest at the reception on Friday evening, May 20, at 5 p.m. at the McConnellsburg High School Track & Field. We also invite you to stay for the beautiful and moving luminaire ceremony at 9 p.m. Candles placed in luminaire bags are purchased prior to and at the event and lit in honor of friends and loved ones who have conquered or are battling cancer, and in memory of those who have lost their battle. The candles burn all night as team participants walk the course throughout the night.

We know that more people are surviving cancer and the chance for them to come together and be recognized at events such as these sends an important message to our community. Cancer survivors show through their strength and courage that we are making great progress against this disease. Those that have survived for many years are a testimony to the fact that the battle can be and is being won over and over again. Those that are more recently diagnosed have others to look up to and the drive and spirit to realize if others can survive, they can survive as well. It definitely softens the blow a cancer diagnosis brings.

We want as many survivors to attend as possible, and because we want to properly honor survivors and caregivers, we’d like to register as many as possible prior to the event. Survivors and caregivers each receive a gift and attend a reception. I’d like to challenge every cancer survivor or caregiver who is reading this letter to give us a call and let us know you are planning to attend the Relay For Life and bring others. I really feel passionately that the lives of other survivors make a difference to those who may be diagnosed at some point in the future. Please call the office at 264-6266 and register with Janet or myself.

See you at the Relay!!
