Hustontown

By Kate Berkstresser

It seems as though we continue to have all those spring showers. Quite a lot of folks say we would like to get the early gardens started.

A large crowd attended an open house at Knobsville United Methodist Church on Sunday to help me celebrate my birthday. I wish to thank everyone for their attendance and gifts and also the ladies of the church who did a great job of serving refreshments. Also for the assortment of all kinds of flowers, which were just beautiful. Again, a special thank you to all and God bless. Some folks from Urbanna, Md., Slippery Rock, Carlisle, McConnellsburg, Warfordsburg, Virginia and several other areas were in attendance.

Happy birthday to Richard Barton, who had a special day on May 16.

By the time these news items come out Election Day will be over. I hope everyone took the time to do their duty and go out to vote. We think it is not important, but it is the way we help elect the candidate of our choice.

We send speedy recovery wishes to Rheon Gelvin who had surgery at Harrisburg Hospital. Hope he will soon be able to return home.

Hustontown Fire Co. will sponsor an open stage on Saturday, May 28, at 6 p.m. The kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Admission is free and we invite everyone to come and share their talent or just come out and enjoy the talent of others. We hope to see you there.

Household Hint: When making hamburgers, form the beef around a small cube of cheese – mozarrella, cheddar or whatever you have on hand. Cook as normal for meatballs. Makes for a tasty surprise in the center.
