Animal Welfare Group Partners With Better Days Animal League

In keeping with the initial goal of securing human society enforcement officer services to Fulton County and making the protection of the animals living in our county a priority, members present at the April meeting unanimously decided to accept an offer from Better Days Animal League to allow the group to ‘umbrella’ under its existing 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal shelter/ rescue organization.

The animal welfare group will now be known as “Friends of Better Days Animal League, Fulton County,” and be able to leverage all the benefits of having nonprofit status immediately. Friends of BDAL will have a Fulton County liaison and eventually have representation on the BDAL Board of Directors. BDAL has facilities at two locations, Chambersburg and Shippensburg. For additional information regarding the BDAL organization, please visit the Website at http://www.betterdaysanimalleag ue.org/.

In affiliation with BDAL, the Fulton County group will work diligently to inform the public, especially children, on the importance of humane education and responsible pet ownership; assist in providing low- cost spay/neuter services in the community; and partner with local government and area animal protection agencies in promoting humane treatment of all animals.

Friends of BDAL fundraising efforts will support the many homeless residents of BDAL, continued human Society enforcement officer services to our county, and education/awareness outreach within the community/ schools. Please join us at the first Fulton County Community Outreach Event sponsored by Butterfly Gardens in McConnellsburg on Saturday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be hot dogs, drinks and baked goods for sale, in addition to a themed basket raffle. Adoption opportunities for puppies and kitties in need of their forever home will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (weather permitting). Also, donations of pet food, cleaning/laundry supplies and paper products will be accepted.

Upcoming Better Days Animal League events include the Fulton County Strawberry Festival; May 21 – Day/Night Golf Tournament, Rocky Springs in Chambersburg; August 20 – Ride for Better Days, starting point M& S Harley Davidson in Chambersburg; September 24 - 5K run/walk and 1 mile fun run event on the Rails to Trails in Shippensburg.

The next meeting of the Friends of Better Days Animal League, Fulton County, will be held on Monday, June 6, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Stephen Catholic Church basement. All those interested in providing support and care to improve the lives of abandoned, abused and neglected animals in Fulton County are welcome to attend.
