Deaths: William Mathias of Burnt Cabins, a veteran of the Civil War; Mrs. Sarah J. (Booth) Starr of Waterfall; Mrs. Anna Wareham of Everett; Emanuel Cooper of Ayr Township.

Sgt. T.G. McCarthy, 42, of the State Police, was killed and Trooper Russell Knies, 23, was wounded on Tuesday morning by a 30-year-old man, supposedly insurance, who was finally wounded and captured after a gun battle at his home near Crystal Spring. He was finally captured after about 45 state policeman, members of the highway patrol, Sheriff Glenn Younker and his deputies and farmers armed with every conceivable sort of firearm charged the man’s home.

Mrs. Harold Rotz underwent an operation last week at the Hagerstown Hospital for sinus trouble.
