Aluminum Cans Accepted In support of May being Men- tal Health Month, aluminum cans are being accepted at Dibert’s Recycling along Route 522 north of McConnellsburg or at the Mental Health Association Office in McConnellsburg on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All proceeds raised from the can collection will go to a mental health organization in this area. Individuals unable to take their cans to either designated location can contact Janet Fittry at 717-552-0507 to make arrangements for their donation to be picked up.

Free Clothing Clinic A free clothing clinic will be held at Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, 13343 Williamsport Pike, Greencastle, on May 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until clothing is gone.

Christian School Registration Fulton County Community Christian School, Needmore, is now accepting students for enrollment for the 2011-2012 school year. Students between the ages of 4 and 18 are being accepted. Children who will be four years old before September 30 are eligible for the prekindergarten class. Lifeguard Recertification American Red Cross lifeguard recertification will be held on Saturdays, May 14 and 21, at James Buchanan pool, at 9 a.m. More information may be obtained by calling Kathy Kendall at 485-0221.

Master Gardeners Program Masters Gardeners will present a program Saturday, May 14, at the state historic site of Fort Loudon. the program, “Growing Plants And Flowers for Food And Fragrance,” will be held in the colonial garden area beside the Patton House from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Refreshments will be served. Bring lawn chairs. Program will be held in the summer kitchen in the event of rain. Admission and parking are free. Located 14 miles west of Chambersburg off Rt. 30 on N. Brooklyn Road. Sponsored by Fort Loudon Historical Society.

FR Staff Recognition Ceremony Forbes Road School District will hold a staff recognition ceremony on Thursday, May 12, in the auditorium at 7 p.m. Four retired staff members or administrators will be added to the “Hall of Fame” outside of the auditorium and honored for their many contributions over their 25 years or longer of service to the school district. The honorees from 2010 are Craig Cutchall and James Heroux and those from 2011 include Byron Helsel and Carol Strait. All are welcome.

SF Registration Southern Fulton School District will hold pre-K registration on May 12 for those children of the district who have reached their fourth birthday before September 1, 2011. There may also be openings for children who will have reached their third birthday before September 1, 2011. There are openings in both morning and afternoon programs regardless of income guidelines. Anyone having a child eligible and interested in the program should contact the school at 294-3400.

Mushroom Walk/Workshop Woodland Owners of the Southern Alleghenies (WOSA) and the Western PA Mushroom Club, with cooperation from Shawnee State Park, will host a mushroom walk and grow-your-own-shiitake-mushrooms workshop in the park at Pavilion 9 on Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m. Participants will inoculate logs with shiitake mushroom spawn and are asked to bring their own logs (preferably oak) three to six inches in diameter and about three feet long. Some logs will be available at the site for those unable to bring their own. The spawn and tools needed to do the inoculation will be provided. Fee per log will be $3 for WOSA and Western PA Mushroom Club members, and $6 for nonmembers. More information may be obtained by calling 717-485-3148.

Bake Sale/Crafts Sale Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary will hold a bake and crafts sale on Friday, May 6, in the main lobby of the Medical Center at 9 a.m.

Irrigation Workshop Fulton County Master Gardeners will hold a workshop and presentation to learn more about an irrigation system using clay pots on May 21, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Butterfly Gardens, Cito Road, McConnellsburg. Attention Veterans Free bus trip Monday, May 16, to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials. Sponsored by the American Legion Post 561 and FOVA Post 655. Carwash/Bake Sale A carwash and bake sale will be held May 7, from 8 a.m. to 2p.m., at Thomas Chevrolette. Donations will be accepted only for the carwash. Sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 43.

Environmental Open House An Environmental open house and Festival of the Arts will be held Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Southern Fulton Elementary. There will be demonstrations on spinning, music, basket weaving, wood turning, calligraphy, quilting, jewelry making, fly tying, food, art displays and hiking.

Mother’s Day Flower Sale St. Stephen Family Life Committee will have a Mother’s Day flower sale Friday, May 6, in front of Snyder’s Insurance office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at St. Stephen’s on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to noon. Hanging basket and flowerpots will be available.
