Fannett-Metal 1

McConnellsburg trounceed Fannett-Metal 18-1 to open its junior high season. Ethan Mellott and Taylor Souders combined to pitch a two-hit, six strikeout game. The Spartans committed no errors. Offensively, the Spartans pounded out 11 hits. Ethan Mellott went 2-4 with three RBIs. Justin Welsh went 2-3 with three RBIs, and Zac Stonecipher added two hits for the Spartans.

April 6

McConnellsburg 9
Northern Bedford 4

The Spartans improved to 2-0 with another strong performance against the Panthers of Northern Bedford. Ethan Mellott struck out seven batters in four innings, and Spencer Souders came into pitch the final two innings, allowing no hits and no runs while striking out two. The Spartans had eight hits. Colton Strait went 1-2 with a double and four RBIs. Ryan Koontz went 1-2, and Jacob Boehme started a sixrun fourth inning with a two RBI single.

April 11

McConnellsburg 4
Chestnut Ridge 6

McConnellsburg staged a last inning rally but fell short 6-4 at Chestnut Ridge. The Spartans committed six fielding errors that led to five of Chestnut Ridge’s runs. Ethan Mellott and Taylor Souders combined for seven strikeouts and only allowed four hits in the loss. Colton Strait and Ethan Mellott each had two hits for the Spartans.

April 15

McConnellsburg 5 Everett 4

The Spartans won a thrilling victory on Friday night, defeating the Everett Warriors 5-4. Ethan Mellott and Spencer Souders combined to pitch a three-hit, eight- strikeout game. William Casher went two for three with a double and an RBI. Justin Welsh doubled twice and Ethan Mellott added a double for the Spartans. Justin Barnard went one for two with two RBIs. The Spartans were down 4-3 going into the bottom of the fifth. Mellott was hit by a pitch, Casher singled, Ryan Koontz walked, and Welsh plated two runs with his second double of the game. The Spartans improved to 3-1 with the victory.

April 20

McConnellsburg 9
Fannett-Metal 5

The junior high Spartans defeated the Fannett-Metal Tigers 9-5. Ethan Mellott, Spencer Souders and Taylor Souders combined for a twohit, 10- strikeout performance. Tied 5-5 in the top of the seventh, the Spartans rallied for four runs on three hits. Ethan Mellott re-entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning to shut down the Tigers in their comeback bid. Landon Richards and Justin Welsh each had wo hits. Richards added two RBIs, and Welsh knocked in three runs. Taylor Souders, Colton Strait, Ethan Mellott, William Casher and Ryan Koontz added hits for the Spartans as they improved to 4-1 on the year.

April 21 Double-header

McConnellsburg 15-9
Forbes Road 1-7

The Spartans swept a double-header from the Cardinals 15-1 and 9-7. In the first game, Spencer Souders went the distance, allowing three hits while only walking one and striking out seven Cardinal batters. The Spartans had 12 hits. Ethan Mellott, William Casher and Ryan Koontz each had two hits for the Spartans. Casher and Koontz each had four RBIs, while Mellott, Landon Richards and Justin Barnard added two RBIs each.

In the second game, the Spartans once again rallied in the late innings to secure the victory. Tied 6-6 in the sixth, the Spartans scored three runs to overtake the Cardinals. Taylor Souders pitched five strong innings, and Spencer Souders came in to throw the final two innings for the victory. The duo struck out nine Cardinal batters. Offensively, Taylor Souders, William Casher and Justin Welsh each had two hits for the Spartans. Ethan Mellott, Ryan Koontz, Justin Barnard and Dylan Everts added hits as the Spartans improved to 6-1 for the year.
