American Welding Society (AWS) District 7 Director Don Howard recently visited the Mellott Co. to present AWS Welder Workforce Development Grant plaques to Fulton County Vo- Tech welding instructor Elisa Ramsey and Mellott representatives Bobby Cross, Jonas Smith and Allan Spade.

The grant, valued at approximately $20,000, will allow three 2012 welding graduates to be employed at the Warfordsburg area business. AWS will feature the grant information in a future publication of its national welding journal.

In conjunction with the grant, Greg Walters, project manager, and Jeff Rowland, human resources director, hosted interested welding students and their parents at Mellott Co. for a tour. Ramsey was also in attendance. Rowland and Walters emphasized that the three juniors will be interviewed and selected in May, but there is a good chance that all eligible students would have an opportunity for job placement if business continues to grow and the students complete competencies that Ramsey will be teaching in accordance with the grant.
