As hunters make last-minute plans for the opening of Pennsylvania’s 24th annual spring gobbler season, it might be well to remember that last year 46 hunters were shot in mistake for turkeys, twice the number shot in 1989. The commission anticipates that somewhere between 200,000 and 250,000 hunters will be afield when the 1991 spring season opens April 27.

Fulton County Medical Center has announced that it will hire an emergency room doctor as well as an interim obstetrician/ gynecologist physician, both of whom will be providing healthcare at the hospital as early as June 1. The hospital is currently working with an agency and with Drs. Susan Peck and Stephen Sheppard to secure the service of an interim OB/GYN. The OB/GYN will be hired through a medical services agency to provide backup coverage while the hospital seeks to recruit a permanent physician to the community. Drs. Peck and Sheppard as well as Dr. Michael Peck have announced they will close their practices here in the near future.

John Duffey, executive vice president and chief executive officer of The First National Bank of McConnellsburg, announced the following promotions which became effective March 26: Daniel Waltz has been promoted to the position of vice president and chief financial officer; Mary Anne Garland has been promoted to the position of assistant vice president and customer service/personnel officer; and Paul Johnston has been promoted to the position of assistant loan officer and collection manager.

Leslie Jo Deneen and Jeffrey Scott Blair were united in marriage March 16 at Hancock Assembly of God. Parents of the couple are Glenn and Goldie Deneen of Warfordsburg and Samuel and Arlene Blair of Martinsburg, W.Va.

Samuel Buterbaugh, a window clerk for the McConnellsburg Post Office, has been selected as the local postal volunteer for the year. Postmaster James Byers presented Samuel with a certificate of appreciation signed by U.S. Postmaster General Anthony M. Frank during a ceremony at the local post office Monday.

Births at the Medical Center: a son to Mr. and Mrs. Danny Buterbaugh of Needmore on April 14; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Randy Smith of Fort Loudon on April 18; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gordon III of Mercersburg on April 18.

Announcement has been made of the marriage of Randy Hamil and Jane Hill. They were married April 5 in the Hagerstown Courthouse.
