F&M Honors SF Basketball Teams

F&M Trust officials have made a donation of $400 to Southern Fulton High School basketball program in support of the boys and girls District 5 Class-A basketball champions. The donation will be used to fund a championship celebration banquet for the student-athletes.

Southern Fulton boys basketball team has won five Class-A titles in the last seven years, defeating topseeded Shade 51-38 in the District 5A championship game. The team ended its season with a record of 22-5. Head coach Kent Hendershot was also named the Public Opinion’s 2010 Coach of the Year; it was his 18th year as head coach.

Southern Fulton girls basketball team finished its season with a 22-4 record. Senior Lacey Beatty was voted Public Opinion’s 2010 Player of the Year with more than 1,000 career points, including 366 points in 2010 for a 14- point game average. The team won the District 5A championship with a 46-32 win over Berlin. In his 13th year as head coach, Mark Mellott was chosen as 2010 Coach of the Year by the Public Opinion.

Both teams advanced to the second round of the state championship playoffs.
