DUI Crash Occurs During Heavy Rain
Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg responded to a single-vehicle accident along Interstate 70 during the heavy rain that soaked the county Saturday.
According to reports, 57- year-old Charles Mearl Riley of Hagerstown, Md., was negotiating a right-hand curve in the Brush Creek Township roadway when he lost control of his eastbound 2006 Toyota Scion. The car went onto the berm, travelled back onto the roadway and spun in a circle before crashing into a speed limit sign at 5:17 p.m.
Riley was wearing a seat belt and escaped injury. He was found to be allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. In addition, state police said, they located two pounds of suspected marijuana in the vehicle.
Riley was charged with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to deliver and driving under the influence. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott and subsequently released on $15,000 unsecured bail.
