Reba J. Chaplinsky

Reba J. Chaplinsky (nee Crouse), 89, Palatine, Ill., died Friday, March 25, 2011, after a sudden illness.

She was born June 21, 1921, in Big Cove Tannery, the daughter of Lily and Maynard Crouse, the fourth of five children.

She graduated from Mc- Connellsburg High School in 1939, briefly attended Shippensburg College, before graduating from Central Penn Business College. She worked as an executive secretary for AMP in Harrisburg, before meeting her future husband, Peter, who preceded her in death October 7, 1986. They were married on August 9, 1952. They had five children: Susan, Kathryn Arter (James), Amy Meehan (Michael), Molly Gillis (Mark) and Peter (Liz).

A friend to those who knew her, she was known for her generous spirit and kind heart. Her primary focus in life were her children, grandchildren and friends. She was a devoted cook, an avid reader and letter writer, volunteer at her senior center, active, sharp and enthusiastic about life until the end.

She is survived also by 12 grandchildren: Kim Ritger ( John), Kevin, Maddie, Ethan, Allison, Cassie, Sarah, Emma, Danny, Claire, Natalie and Caroline; one great-grandson, Hank; a brother, Wayne Crouse (Virginia); numerous niece, nephews and countless friends. She was dearly loved and will be forever missed.

Following a funeral service on March 30, 2011, she was buried next to her husband at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Palatine, Ill.
