Dennis R. Unger

Dennis Ray Unger, 65, Great Cacapon, W.Va., died Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore.

Born November 25, 1945, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Vernon Elroy and Wilma Virginia Effland Unger.

He was a memer of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Great Cacapon.

He attended Hancock High School and retired in 2009, after 40 years of service, with Orkin Pest Control Services. He was a member of Dark Hollow Hunting Club in Great Cacapon. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and watching his beloved Colts play football.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Marie Cline Unger, whom he married July 28, 1990; four sons: Darrin Ray Unger, Warfordsburg; Paul Dixon Jr., Matthew Dixon and Robert Trail, all of Hagerstown; two daughters: Rhonda Bridges, Longview, Texas, and Dana Stinson, Anaheim, Calif.; three sisters: Verna Maxine McIntyre, Hedgesville, W.Va.; Carol Ann Socks, Hagerstown; and Debra Lynne Keefer, Hancock; one brother, Kenneth Elroy Unger, Cumberland, Md.; seven grandchildren: Shannon Weaver, Marissa Stinson, Christopher Bridges, Joshua Stinson, Kaila Stinson, Hunter Unger and Alys-sa Dixon; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Larry Dean Unger and Phillip Dale Unger Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 21, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 5299 Central Avenue, Great Cacapon, W.Va. Pastor Larry Tomlinson will officiate. Interment will be at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Great Cacapon, W.Va.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, April 20, at Helsley- Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday for the convenience of family and friends.
