Hunters Helping Kids Hold Annual Banquet

Mason Dixon Hunters Helping Kids held its annual banquet on Saturday, April 9, at Hustontown Firehall with more than 230 adults and children attending. The evening started with raffles and games and a live performance by Chris Woodward and Shin Diggen, along with Zachary Miller, followed by a meal prepared by the ladies auxiliary.

After the meal, a live auction was held with national director of Hunters Helping Kids Dale Dodson from North Carolina. Mason Dixon Hunters Helping Kids raised more than $13,000 that the auction and games. A special thank-you to all the people who donated items and underwrote auction items as well as attended the banquet.

Norma Wertmen, board member, presented Troy Miller, president of Mason Dixon chapter, with a plaque for all the hours and behindthe scenes work he is doing for the organization. Wertmen was presented the Extra Mile Award for all she has and is doing, along with a dozen red roses and a Hunters Helping Kids sign with her name on it.

Everyone had an enjoyable evening. The banquet will be held next year on May 19.

Chris Woodward will hold a concert at the Mount Union VFW on July 1 from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. All proceeds will be used to take local children hunting and fishing.

On August 14 a redneck basket bingo will be held at the Hustontown Firehall at noon. Cost is $25 per person or $30 at the door. It will be followed by a live concert and dance with Chris Woodward and Shin Diggen. The fire company will serve food and drinks all day. All proceeds will be used to take two children in remission to Nimba South Africa in 2012. Miller can also be contacted to register a child 12-15 years of age. These children will be filmed and appear on the “Backcountry Bad Boys” TV show.
