2010 Bear Harvest Down

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Wildlife officials say Pennsylvania’s 2010 bear harvest was down slightly from last year but still ranks as the fifth-largest in state history.

Hunters took 3,090 bears last year, including 269 taken in the new five-day statewide archery season.

That total is down from the 3,512 taken last year. The harvest is the lowest since 2007, when hunters bagged 2,360 bears.

The commission says hunters took 11 bears weighing 600 pounds or more.
