Petition Withdrawn In Torture Death
GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) – A western Pennsylvania woman who was only 17 when she was charged in the torture murder of a disabled woman has withdrawn her request to have a judge move her case to juvenile court.
Instead, 18-year-old Angela Marinucci will stand trial beginning May 2 on charges relating to her alleged participation in February 2010 killing of 30-year-old Jennifer Daugherty in Greensburg.
Marinucci’s attorney, Michael DeMatt, says the petition was withdrawn Monday because it’s in his client’s “best interest” to be tried as an adult. He didn’t say why that is, especially since she faces up to life in prison if she’s convicted but would have had any punishments end by age 21 in juvenile court.
Westmoreland County prosecutors are pursuing the death penalty against three of five other defendants, including 25-year- old Ricky Smyrnes – Marinucci’s boyfriend at the time.
