From The Files Of April 11, 1991

Fulton County’s most influential churchman was laid to rest Sunday in the valley that he loved and served for the past 46 years. Rev. David R. Hoover, who died last Wednesday in Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, was revered as a statesman among clergy. His influence was expressed through the force of his personality on all aspects of community and religious life and he was a virtual institution throughout Fulton County.

Trout season opens this Saturday, April 13, and the county’s waters have been nicely stocked.

A memorial service was held at Mc- Connellsburg Elementary School on Sunday afternoon for school librarian, the late Connie Hunsecker Cordell, and the size of the crowd, who came to pay their last respects, reflected the esteem in which the young educator was held in the community.

Steve Winegardner of Dublin Mills rounded out the top caller of the 1991 Masters Invitational Calling Championship held at Uniontown, Pa. The field of contestants consisted of the nation’s top callers, who must be qualified by the National Wild Turkey Federation.
