Benefit Concert Pennsylvania Special Olympics of Bedford County is collaborating with Matthew Vollbrecht and Rising Star in a benefit concert on May 1, 2011, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Bedford High School auditorium. Vollbrecht will be emceeing as well as performing in this show along with this year’s winner Ricky Howsare and finalists Nicky Wilt and Olivia Mills of Forbes Road High School. Previous Rising Star winners will also be there lending their considerable talents in this endeavor to raise much-needed revenue for the Special Olympic teams. For more information, call 348-1028.

Card Party McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Association will hold another card party on Saturday, April 30, starting at 6 p.m. at the McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Community Building (former old MHS). Any questions, please call Kathy J. Kendall at 485-0221.

Bus Trip The sons of the American Legion will host a bus trip Saturday, May 21, to Cabela’s and Hollywood Casino in Grantville, Pa. Price is $38 per person, which includes $5 food voucher and $25 in slot coins. Bus will leave the McConnellsburg Legion parking lot at 9:30 a.m. More information may be obtained by calling Monte Rasp at 717-485-3797.

Summer Community Musical Southern gospel “Homecoming” will be presented in July. Auditions for anyone wishing to sing a solo or speak lines will be Saturday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at McConnellsburg United Methodist Church on the square. Anyone wishing to be a part of the choir ensemble does not need to audition, but should contact directors Karen Godissart at 485-4318 or Hope Moore at 485-4050 by May 1.

Egg Hunt/Open House An egg hunt and open house will be held at Fulton County Center for Families Friday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the old Overly-Raker building. This event is for children from birth to age 5 and is open to the community. RSVP by April 15 to ensure a spot at this event. Open Stage Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor an open stage on Saturday, April 23, at 6 p.m. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Admission is free and the facility is smokefree.

Spring Craft Show A spring craft show will be held Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 17, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Shade Gap Fire Co. Auxiliary building. Homecooked chicken dinners and many other foods will be available along with a photographer for spring photos. Proceeds benefit the auxiliary.

FR Lions Easter Egg Hunt Forbes Road Lions Club Easter egg hunt will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 23, at Lions Park, conditions permitting. In case of inclement weather or muddy grounds, the event will take place in Forbes Road High School gym. Eggs, candy and special prizes for toddlers thru 12-years-olds. Raffle tickets are now on sale to support the hunt and other projects.

Golf Tournament Fulton County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism spring fever golf tournament will be held April 29. Raindate is April 30. Shotgun start at 1 p.m. with scramble format at Great Cove Golf & Recreation Club, 366 Riggs Drive, McConnellsburg. Cost is $65 per golfer, which includes greens and cart fees, meal with beverages, snacks and gift bag. Additional information may be obtained by calling 717-485- 4064 or at info@fultoncountypa.com. Library Teen Night Come join fellow teens at the library! Teen Advisory Board meeting at 5 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2011. The board plans fun teen activities and selects new music, videos and books for the library. At 6 p.m., the Wii, movies, books, games, music and food begin. Both will be in the community room of the Fulton County Library, McConnellsburg. Enter through basement door. All teen advisory board meetings and teen nights will be the last Friday of each month through August. All teens welcome.

Free Movie Free Friday movie in the community room at the Fulton County Library at 6:10 p.m., April 15. Movie is rated PG. Please call the library at 485-5327 or stop in to find out what’s playing.

Spring Tea A spring tea will be held at the Fulton House on Saturday, April 23. Tickets available at Summer Thyme Floral on Lincoln Way East or call 485-4772. There will be a hat judging for those who want to enter, with prizes for the prettiest and for the most outlandish.

Easter Egg Hunt McConnellsburg Lions Club will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt for youths 12 and under. The hunt will be held at the Lions Community Park on April 23, 2011, at 10 a.m. There will be different age groups with prizes for each group.

New York Trip Modern Woodmen Youth Group is sponsoring a day trip to New York City Saturday, May 14. Board the bus at 7 p.m., pit stop, back in McConnellsburg around midnight. Cost is $45 per person if reserved and paid in full by April 8. After that, the cost per person will be $50. No smoking or alcohol is permitted on the bus. New York City Trip Modern Woodmen of American Camp 7948 is sponsoring a bus trip to New York City Saturday, May 7. The bus departs McConnellsburg courthouse at 6 a.m. A stop will be made at 8:15 a.m. and arrival in New York City at 11:30 a.m. Depart New York City near the Times Square area at 6:30 p.m. and a stop will be made halfway home for supper. Estimated arrival back is 12:15 a.m. Cost for transportation and a buffet breakfast is $55 per person.
