William D. Peightel
William D. Peightel, 94, McConnellsburg, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, in San Marcos, Calif.
He was born in Mc- Connellsburg on October 14, 1916, the son of the late Amos D. and Mary (Daniels) Peightel. He was the husband of Helen A. “Pat” (Mc- Cune) Peightel of San Marcos, Calif., whom he married on August 22, 1942.
He served in the U. S. Army as a technical sergeant in Word War II under General Eisenhower and was assigned to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force. He received a personal commendation from General Eisenhower and the La Croix De Guerre 1940 Avec Pal Me by the Belgian government, which is the highest honor to a non- Belgian native.
He was a member of Mc- Connellsburg United Methodist Church, the Northminster Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Ariz., the Elks Club in Chambersburg, the VFW in Mercersburg, the American Legion Post #561 in Mc- Connellsburg, and was a retired vice president of Tucson Gas & Electric in Tucson, Ariz.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Patricia Abbie (wife of Randolph) Cole of San Marcos, Calif.; nephew William Trogler of Chambersburg and cousin Warren Daniels of Mc- Connellsburg.
Funeral services will be held at McConnellsburg United Methodist Church, McConnellsburg, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011, with Pastor John Godissart and Father Joseph Nale officiating. Interment is at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.
There will be visitation on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 2 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral
Home Inc., McConnellsburg, Pa. There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Saturday at the church.
Military services will be conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard.
