Marion L. Morgret
Marion Lowell “ Slim” Morgret, 79, Breezewood, died Friday, March 25, 2011, at Fulton County Medical Center, Long Term Care Unit, McConnellsburg.
He was born December 15, 1931, in Breezewood, the youngest of six sons born to Charles H. Morgret and Doris (Felton) Morgret.
On October 19, 1955, in Winchester, Va., he married Doris J. (Price) Morgret, who passed away January 1, 1997.
Surviving are their children: Barry Morgret and wife Ginger ( Clark) Morgret, Breezewood; Celia Bequeath and friend Eric Fletcher, Crystal Spring; Lori Mellott of Alum Bank; six grandchildren: Amanda Morgret, Everett; Aaron Bequeath, Crystal Spring; Justin Mellott, Woodbury; Allyson and Alex Morgret, Hummelstown; Morgan Deremer, Alum Bank; and a brother, Rex Morgret, and wife Marcella ( Grimes) Morgret, Everett.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Charles, Gail, John and William.
He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Breezewood and while living in McConnellsburg, attended the chapel services at Fulton County Medical Center.
He was a graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1949, and proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, from 1952 to 1955, with the Fleet Air Service Squadron 121, receiving the National Defense Service Medal.
After returning home from service to his country, “Slim,” as he was known to family and friends, began working as a truck driver for Morral Brothers Inc., Kramer Brothers Freight Lines and TransCon. In 1969 he was elected to serve as district magistrate for District 57-30-04, a position he held for 26 years until retiring in 1996.
He was a member of Everett American Legion Post 8, a lifetime member of Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co., and a charter member of Breezewood VFW Post 8333. He was also a member of Everett Lodge 524, F&AM, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Harrisburg Consistory, Jaffa Shrine of Altoona and Fraternal Order of Police Frederick Sutton Memorial Ldoge 57.
At home, he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and playing golf, and especially enjoyed visits and family events with his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 29, at 11 a.m., in the chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Home. Pastor Richard L. Bernhard officiated. Burial was made in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Breezewood. Full military honors were conducted by Everett Honor Guard.
Everett Lodge 524, F&AM conducted services at the funeral home on Monday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m.
