Jacob W. Zeis

Fort Loudon, 84

Jacob W. Zeis, 84, Fort Loudon, died at 4:55 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Falling Spring Nursing Home, Chambersburg.

Born February 10, 1927, in Fort Loudon, he was a son of the late Albert and Mabel Johnson Zeis.

He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot for 30 years, retiring in 1988.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Fort Loudon United Methodist Church. Other memberships include member and past president of Mt. Parnell Ruritan Club, life member and past president of Mercersburg Sportsmen’s Association, life member of Fort Loudon Community Center, Fort Loudon Historical Association, American Legion Post 606 of Fort Loudon.

He was named Outstanding Sportsman of the Year by Franklin County Federation of Sportsmen’s Club in 1974 and in 1992 was named Sportsman of the Year by Mercersburg Sportsmen’s Association

He provided financial support to churches and civic organizations for 35 years by providing “Jake’s Famous BB Q Chicken.”

His wife, Leona P. Fletcher Zeis, died December 6, 2003.

Surviving are two daughters: Roxanne A. (Mrs. Irl Wray) Hauman, St. Thomas; Evelyn K. (Mrs. Gary) Runk, Chambersburg; two sons: Steven M. Zeis, Fort Loudon, and Aaron J. (husband of Erika) Zeis, Upton; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters: Annabelle Hornbaker and Betty Helman, both of Chambersburg; Mary Lou Kriner, Lemasters; and Shirley Daniels, Mc- Connellsburg; and three brothers: William Zeis, Fort Loudon; Albert Zeis, Chambersburg, and Robert Zeis, St. Thomas.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rochelle Hauman; sisters: Dorothy Maschiotti and Viola Egolf; and brother Earl Zeis.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, at Fort Loudon United Methodist Church. Revs. Laura Minnella and Richard E. Egolf Jr. officiated. Burial was made in Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon.

Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
