90 Homes Damaged In Possible Western Pa. Tornado
GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) – Officials say a possible tornado destroyed about 30 homes and damaged 60 more in western Pennsylvania.
Westmoreland County emergency management officials say Wednesday’s storm ripped roofs off houses and uprooted trees but resulted in only minor injuries.
Residents in Hempfield Township about 25 miles east of Pittsburgh reported seeing a funnel cloud as the storm bore down on them. The National Weather Service will be at the scene Thursday to determine if a tornado did touch down.
Wednesday’s storm was part of a far-reaching system that stretched from Nebraska to upstate New York.
In North Carolina, The Hendersonville Times-News reports a Polk County man was killed when a tree fell on his pickup truck. Experts in Tennessee are doing surveys in three areas to see if storms there were tornadoes.
