Fulton County’s State Health Clinic in the Penn’s

Village Shopping Center will be closing at the end of May, and clients will be told to seek services at either the Chambersburg or Bedford clinics. The lease for the health clinic location at the shopping center will not be renewed, and the department has no plans to renew that lease. The state is in a budget shortfall and the consolidation of the state health center system was included in the Casey administration’s proposed state budget. The current list of 62 offices operating in 61 counties has been under review for possible consolidations.

This time last year the McConnellsburg High School girls basketball team was in the PIAA Final Four. It was the most exciting event to hit Fulton County basketball in years. But then the dream came to an end in the western final as the McConnellsburg Lady Spartans dropped the game to state runner-up Bellwood Antis. This year’s Lady Spartans will square off against District 7 third-place team Monesson at the University of Pitt at Johnstown. A win would put the Spartans in their first-ever state championship game.

A McConnellsburg man was killed in a fire which destroyed a mobile home along Coldsmith Road near Fayetteville last Friday, March 15. Howard L. Strait, 40, Mc- Connellsburg, a guest in the home, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was found in the home of Nancy Neuder following the fire.

Mr. and Mrs. Seibert Barnett of Waterfall will celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary on March 21.

Christi Booth, a McConnellsburg High School sophomore and FFA member, placed third and was named Master Showman of her class in the Pennsylvania Junior Dairy Show September 24.

Harold Martz Sr. celebrated his 80th birthday on March 20.

Births at the Medical Center: a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Mark Beall of Hedgesville, W.Va., on March 10.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wakefield of Needmore announce the engagement of their daughter, Lisa, to Edward Wenschhof Jr. of Gettysburg.
