Mary J. Clippinger

Chambersburg, 88

Mary Jane Clippinger, 88, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, from Menno Haven at Penn Hall with her son and husband of 71 years at her side.

She was born April 24, 1922, in Ben Avon, Pa., to Alfred C. and Kathryn (Campbell) Burns.

She grew up in Knobsville and on her 18th birthday, April 24, 1940, married Lester K. Clippinger.

She was employed by Fulton County National Bank, McConnellsburg, for 17 years. She liked being a teller but especially enjoyed rearing her daughter and son, playing piano, traveling and knitting.

She is survived by her husband, Lester, and their two children: Dorinda (wife of William) Jewell of Columbia, S.C., and Tim (Lester K., Jr.) (husband of Josie) of St. Michael’s, Md.; two grandchildren: Lyle K. Clippinger of Milwaukee, Wis.; and Amy J. Clippinger of West Chester, Pa.; and one great-granddaughter, Kayla M. Clippinger.

A brother, Alfred “Bill” Burns, and sister Betty Smith preceded her in death.

A private funeral service will be held in the chapel at Penn Hall. Interment will be at Center Church Cemetery, Three Springs.

M. R. Brown Funeral Home in Hustontown handled the arrangements.
