Charles W. Jones
Born March 17, 1932, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Charles Rubert and Dessa Hester Smith Jones.
He was a graduate of Suitland High School and also a graduate of KREI Institute in Washington, D.C.
He was a member of Needmore Bible Church, Needmore, where he served as an usher.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War.
He was a life member of the DAV; a member of the VFW Post 467, Westminster, Md.; the Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, Hancock, Md.; The Gideons International; the NRA; the Civil War Trust; and the Alumni Association of the Maryland State Police.
He was retired, as an electronic specialist, from the National Security Agency. Prior to that, he was a journeyman machinist.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis McGrogan Jones, of Little Orleans, Md., whom he married June 17, 1961, in Philadelphia, Pa.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Lynn and husband, Robert Paul Knotts, Jr., of Staunton, Va.; one son, Matthew William Jones and wife Nancy Jean Jones, of Little Orleans, Md.; one sister, Dolores Kissellbach of Bowie, Md.; one brother, George Alan Jones of Chester, Md.; and grandchildren, Brett Charles Meunier, Tyler William Jones, Laura Elizabeth Knotts, and Robert Paul Knotts, III.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Gray; and one brother, James Jones.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Needmore Bible Church, Needmore, Pa. Rev. Douglas Poffenberger officiated. Burial followed at the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md.
There will be a light lunch served at the Church at 11:00 a.m., before the services.
