A Needmore woman died on Sunday at a Maryland hospital after suffering serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident in Brush Creek Township.

Thirty-year-old Amanda Starr Willey was pronounced dead at 8:07 p.m. at Meritus Medical Center located in Hagerstown. Willey was not wearing a seat belt when she sustained the injuries only hours earlier along SR 643 at 5:20 p.m.

Pennsylvania State Police Cpl. Brian Lewis of the McConnellsburg substation stated Willey was heading eastbound on March 6 in a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Having just rounded a left-hand curve in the roadway, the Jeep travelled onto the southern berm where it struck a large tree.

The vehicle stopped immediately upon hitting the tree with its front bumper, Cpl. Lewis added.

Despite poor weather conditions, including whiteouts in some areas, an ambulance was able to transport Willey to a helicopter that flew her to Hagerstown.

State police said their investigation into the fatal crash is continuing.
